Around 2020, the Android version of the Firefox browser could add extensions. However, at that time, the Firefox browser abandoned the previous architecture version and at the same time removed the extension function from the perspective of security and ease of use. Extensions are very popular on PC browsers because they can achieve a variety of functions. This demand is also available on mobile phones, but most mobile versions of browsers do not support extensions.

It was not until August this year that after a period of testing, the Mozhi Foundation finally announced that it would bring an open extension ecosystem to Firefox for Android. The Android version of the Firefox browser will be able to install many excellent extensions.

Today, the Mozhi Foundation announced that the extension function of the Android version of the Firefox browser will be officially opened on December 4, 2023. Currently, the first batch of supported extensions are 16 that are already being tested, including the password manager Bitwarden, the privacy protection extension Decentraleyes, the text-to-speech extension, the extension of the ad blocking tool AdGuard, WebArchives, ClearURLs, etc.

When it is officially launched next month, the Firefox browser Android version will support more than 400 extensions, and by then the needs of most users can be met.

Of course, as you can see, not all extensions in Firefox Add-ons support running on mobile phones, because this requires extension developers to make adaptation and compatibility, so more and more extensions will be supported in the future.
