At 02:09 on January 23, 2024, a magnitude 7.1 earthquake occurred in Wushi County, Xinjiang, with a focal depth of 22 kilometers and an epicenter located at 41.26 degrees north latitude and 78.63 degrees east longitude. Since then, aftershocks have continued in the area.As of 8:00 a.m. on January 25, a total of 2,708 aftershocks had been recorded, with 1,604 new aftershocks recorded in the past day.Among them, 2579 were below magnitude 3.0, 129 were magnitude 3.0 and above: 105 were magnitude 3.0-3.9, 18 were magnitude 4.0-4.9, and 6 were magnitude 5.0-5.9. The largest aftershock so far was magnitude 5.7, about 22 kilometers away from the epicenter of the main shock.
After the earthquake, Jilin-1 satellite immediately launched emergency response, dispatched high-resolution remote sensing satellites, conducted emergency photography of the earthquake area, and investigated the damage in the earthquake area and surrounding areas.
It is understood that during this earthquake, most of the damage to houses in Wushi County and surrounding areas wasWall cracks, shed circle collapse, bricks and tiles falling off, etc., the bearing capacity of the wall after the earthquake was destroyed.
After preliminary planning by relevant departments,In Wushi County, more than 1,000 houses were damaged and more than 900 sheds collapsed.
