You'll soon be able to use one of Surface's exclusive AI features on any PC that supports Windows 11. Microsoft revealed that VoiceClarity will be available on all Windows 11 computers equipped with x64 processors, not just ARM64 chips.

VoiceClarity is a feature that runs in the background and improves voice quality in real time during calls. It uses "low-complexity artificial intelligence models" to suppress background noise, eliminate echoes and reduce reverberation. However, with the launch of Windows 11 Canary Channel build 26040, all users with "legacy" Intel and ARM processors can try out the feature.

VoiceClarity works at the system level with all applications that use communication signal processing patterns, including voice chat in many popular games. This means you don’t have to wait for developers to support voice access in their projects to benefit from voice access. However, app makers can also toggle between AI modes for voice communications.

The Speech Clarity feature is part of Windows Studio Effects, a set of enhancements that rely on machine algorithms and require a dedicated NPU (Neural Processing Unit). They include video background effects, eye contact, automatic framing and voice improvements. With Windows 11 build 26040, users without an NPU in their PC can try some of these enhancements.

Microsoft, Qualcomm, AMD, and Intel are pushing hard for AI experiences on modern PCs. Later this year, customers will have the opportunity to choose from a large wave of new computers equipped with dedicated artificial intelligence processor chips. Microsoft is also expected to release a new version of Windows with "breakthrough" artificial intelligence features. Some of them will work on existing computers, while others will only work on new devices equipped with the latest chips. Rumors also claim that 16GB of memory is now the benchmark for artificial intelligence computers.
