Unexpectedly, the world's most expensive oil-to-electric vehicle, the Rolls-Royce Shining, would be recalled. Recently, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration disclosed that the ground connection cable between the front motor and the car chassis may contain adhesive residue that increases resistance, resulting in insufficient grounding and posing a significant safety risk.BMW North America will recall some Rolls-Royce Shining pure electric vehicles, a total of 107 vehicles.
Rolls-Royce said,The potential issue was discovered during a pre-delivery inspection in December 2023, when a worker noticed adhesive residue on the ground wire connection eyelet, the manufacturer initiated an engineering investigation, and the supplier subsequently initiated an internal engineering investigation.
It is reported that starting from January 11, 2024, Rolls-Royce will temporarily stop the delivery of the Shining, and the vehicles will be inspected in the following time.
Foreign media said that this problem may cause the vehicle to short-circuit and may also lead to "the risk of thermal runaway", but the official clarified that this will be "extremely rare situation".
The 107 vehicles being recalled will have technicians remove the ground wire, check for adhesive residue, clean it if necessary, and then reinstall it.
It is understood that "thermal runaway" usually refers to out-of-control fires. These fires are very hot, spread quickly and are difficult to extinguish. However, Rolls-Royce currently states thatIt is unclear whether similar incidents have occurred.
