Galaxy AI, the artificial intelligence that drives the Galaxy S24 series, may usher in a paid era after the end of 2025. At the time, I wasn't sure how most users would take it, or whether Samsung would take it back, but more information surfacing shows how serious Samsung is.

Samsung's head of mobile business T.M. Roh hinted that Galaxy AI features will be available for a fee sometime after 2025. Roh also mentioned that there will be some additional features that will be exclusive to paying consumers. This means that Samsung will make some features free for everyone.

In an interview, Roh confirmed that Galaxy AI will be free for everyone to use until the end of 2025. After that, though, the company may start charging for its services. It’s worth noting that Samsung has yet to make a decision on the future of its AI services, and Roh even publicly stated that this is still in the decision-making stage, which does indicate that the charging plan for AI functions may eventually change.

"According to our analysis, people have various needs for mobile artificial intelligence," Roh told ETTelecom. "Therefore, there will be consumers who will be satisfied with free access to AI capabilities."

Roh mentioned that Samsung may launch more powerful and richer artificial intelligence functions for users who are willing to spend money to purchase artificial intelligence functions. This may make Galaxy AI a paid service, and it would be reasonable to launch different levels of services at this time.

"Then there may be customers who want more powerful artificial intelligence capabilities and even pay for it, so we will take these factors into consideration in future decisions."
