The International Agency for Research on Cancer, a subsidiary of the World Health Organization, recently released a latest report showing that there will be approximately 20 million new cancer cases and 9.7 million deaths worldwide in 2022.It is worth noting that lung cancer accounts for the highest proportion in both data: 2.5 million new lung cancer cases and 1.8 million deaths.

The report shows that lung cancer, breast cancer, and colorectal cancer will be the cancers with the highest incidence in the world in 2022. Lung cancer becoming the most common cancer may be related to the long-term smoking situation in Asia.

Globally, there are gender differences in cancer incidence and mortality.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women and the leading cause of cancer death in women.

Lung cancer is the most common cancer among men and the leading cause of cancer death in men.

According to a previous domestic survey, the five cancers with the highest death rates in China are lung cancer, liver cancer, gastric cancer, esophageal cancer, and colorectal cancer. Lung cancer also ranks first and is growing the fastest.

The WHO report predicts that in 2050, there will be more than 35 million new cancer cases worldwide, an increase of 77% from 2022.

Many factors contribute to the increasing global burden of cancer, including population aging and population growth, as well as changes in cancer risk factors, some of which are associated with socioeconomic development.

Smoking, alcohol consumption and obesity are key factors in rising cancer rates, and air pollution remains a major environmental risk factor.
