Apple is considering launching its first foldable device in the next few years, in a 7- to 8-inch form factor that could eventually replace the 8.3-inch iPad mini. This is the latest statement from Korean media TheElec, which predicts that this new product line should be launched between 2026 and 2027.

On the other hand, Apple is also actively developing OLED DiPadmini, so there is still uncertainty within Apple about the nature and specifications of this foldable product. According to reports, the industry is still speculating whether it will be a foldable iPhone or a foldable iPad model.

Samsung Display and LG Display have reportedly sent samples of 7-inch and 8-inch foldable panels to Apple since last year.

It is said that among panel companies, Samsung is more active than LG in developing foldable panels for Apple, and if Apple decides to release foldable panels in 2026, Samsung is more likely to become a major supplier.

Apple, Samsung Display and LG Display are also said to have "different ideas" on ultra-thin glass materials, foldable panel cover windows, and core hinge concepts for the product mechanism. The reason is probably due to different judgments on product durability and reliability.

Therefore, once mass production is decided, Samsung is expected to manufacture foldable panels on the 6th generation A3 or A4 OLED production lines that produce iPhone OLED panels.

Apple may also be developing a larger 20.5-inch foldable product, which is expected to be released later than the 7-8-inch device.
