Russian cosmonaut Oleg Kononenko broke the world record for the total time humans have stayed in space, spending a total of 878 days, 11 hours, 29 minutes and 48 seconds in space. The Russian Federal Space Agency stated that it is expected that by June 5, 2024, Kononenko's total stay in space will reach 1,000 days.

Kononenko has now completed his fifth flight to the International Space Station (first flight to the International Space Station in 2008). No other current Russian cosmonaut has flown more than three times.

It is reported that,Staying on the space station for a long time is a challenge for the human body, because the gravity-free environment can lead to spinal extension, muscle atrophy, reduced bone density and other problems.

Kononenko said in an interview: "I went to space to do what I love most, not to set records."
