According to the latest iOS 17 adoption statistics provided by Apple today, 76% of iPhones released in the past four years have iOS 17 installed. This is the first time Apple has announced the number of installations of the iOS 17 operating system since its release in September last year.
Of the iPhones released in the past four years, 20% are still running iOS 16, and 4% are running earlier operating systems. Of all iPhones in use, 66% are running iOS 17, 23% are running iOS 16, and 11% are running earlier versions of iOS.
Apple also shared iPadOS installation data. Of the iPads launched in the past four years, 61% have iPadOS 17 installed, 29% have iPadOS 16, and 10% are running an earlier version of iPadOS.
Of all iPads in use, 53% have iPadOS 17 installed, 29% have iPadOS 16, and 18% are running earlier versions of iPadOS software.
This time last year, 81% of all iPhones launched in the past four years had iOS 16 installed, so adoption of iOS 17 has been slower. But in February 2023, only 53% of iPads were running iPadOS16, so iPadOS17 was adopted faster than iPadOS16.
iOS 17 was first released in September, and Apple has released three major updates so far. The fourth major update, iOS 17.4, will be released in March.
