Like the iOS app, Google Maps for Android will now overlay weather and air quality indexes when browsing map layers. A small rectangular box now appears in the upper left corner below the search bar and location filters. By default, it labels the temperature with an icon and AQI (Air Quality Index). It can also record whether there is precipitation such as rain or snow and the time of precipitation.
Clicking opens a card with more weather information, including "feelings," maximum/minimum temperatures for the day, and a 12-hour forecast, and clicking the Air Quality Index section loads an existing air quality map layer.
This weather box updates as the user moves around the map, and Google Maps uses slightly different weather/conditions icons than Google Weather.
The feature has been present in the iOS client for some time and has been naturally integrated into Android, where it has only started to be available in recent weeks. Today we're seeing wider availability (version 11.113.x). If you don't see it online yet, please update or restart it.
