Apple may soon launch the Apple Vision Pro globally, but for now it's only available in the United States, which is already proving to be a problem. Germans trying to bring the Apple Vision Pro into the country, not realizing they had to pay import taxes, faced fees, fines, and even device confiscation.

Some international users decided not to wait and flew to the United States to be among the first to own Apple Vision Pro. Unfortunately, some users were intercepted by customs authorities upon returning to Germany.

According to local publication HeiseOnline, customs officials at Berlin Airport said about eight people had been stopped in the past few days. Businesses trying to import VisionPro headsets must register in advance, while individuals can declare them upon arrival.

Those trying to import the VisionPro must declare it through the airport's "red zone" - "Items to be declared" - and then present the device and invoice.

What happened next was complicated because, according to HeiseOnline, these travelers easily exceeded the normal duty-free allowance of 430 euros ($463). While Germany does not impose customs duties on computers, the equipment must be declared or risk criminal tax prosecution. According to reports, at least some of the passengers stopped at Berlin airport had their devices confiscated.

The confiscated Apple Vision Pro and possibly any accessories should eventually be returned. But depending on how quickly Germany is currently dealing with such issues, users hoping to be early adopters may find themselves waiting a full year for their Apple Vision Pro to be returned to them, according to reports.

The practice of international import duty collection has always been complex, with huge variations in how different countries enforce their own laws. For example, the UK Post Office has been known to impose duties on duty-free goods and refuse to even discuss them.

Therefore, buyers should be wary of any method of importing an item as expensive as the Apple Vision Pro, whether in person or ordering online through eBay.
