Ubisoft co-founder and CEO Yves Guillemot described the sales of "Assassin's Creed: Nexus VR" as "disappointing" during the QA Q&A session of the company's fiscal 2024 third quarter earnings call and stated that Ubisoft will not make significant investments in the VR field for the time being.
During the Q&A portion of a conference call discussing third quarter fiscal 2024 sales, a caller asked about the emergence of new VR formats such as MetaQuest 3 and Apple Vision Pro, and whether Ubisoft would develop games for these VR platforms.
Guillemot responded that Ubisoft is currently unwilling to invest too many resources in the VR field because the sales of "Assassin's Creed: Nexus VR" are not as good as expected.
"We are a little disappointed with the results of Assassin's Creed in VR. The game is doing OK and continues to sell, but its sales are lower than we expected, so we will not increase our investment in VR at this time because it needs to develop further.
We're very impressed with the hardware Apple has released and we think it's great, but we still view the VR business as an area that needs attention but not a lot of money until it's mature enough. "
"Assassin's Creed: Nexus VR" will be released in November 2023 and will be launched on MetaQuest, allowing players to play the three protagonists of previous games in the series: Ezio, Cassandra and Connor. Players can complete tasks through their eyes, including parkour.
In 2022, Ubisoft announced the cancellation of "Splinter Cell VR", which was developed by RedStorm Studio and was exclusive to Quest.
