On February 8, according to Caixin.com, Baidu apologized to NavInfo after the second appeal failed. Three companies, Beijing Baidu Network Technology Co., Ltd., Baidu Online Network Technology (Beijing) Co., Ltd., and Baidu Cloud Computing Technology (Beijing) Co., Ltd., publicly issued apology statements in the media, saying that the companies fulfilled the requirements of the previous first-instance judgment and publicly apologized to NavInfo.
The background of this incident originated from 2017, when NavInfo filed a lawsuit with the Beijing Intellectual Property Court against copyright infringement and unfair competition disputes with Beijing Baidu Network Technology Co., Ltd., Baidu Online Network Technology (Beijing) Co., Ltd., and Baidu Cloud Computing Technology (Beijing) Co., Ltd. After the company won the first instance, Baidu appealed to the Beijing Higher People's Court.
At noon on January 9, 2024, NavInfo announced that it had won the second-instance trial of Baidu’s copyright infringement and unfair competition lawsuit, with the amount involved being 64.5 million yuan.
However, the dispute between the two parties was not over. At that time, Baidu responded to the loss of Navmap’s new copyright case: After the contract with Siwei was terminated in 2016, Baidu Maps used self-collected data, not Siwei data. In response to the verdict, Baidu will apply to the Supreme People's Court for a retrial to safeguard our legitimate interests. At the same time, we have also initiated a lawsuit against NavInfo for infringement of Baidu Map copyright and unfair competition. We always respect and protect intellectual property rights and conduct business operations in accordance with the principles of legal compliance.
