With the launch of the iPhone 15 series, Apple's largest OEM partner Hon Hai Group's Chennai factory in India currently has 35,000 people, which is not enough for production. It is urgently recruiting talents and aims to expand to 200,000 people within three years, which is more than five times the current scale. According to industry analysis, Hon Hai Group has significantly expanded India's iPhone production capacity to meet Apple's demand, which will lead to a rapid increase in the proportion of iPhones assembled in India.
Other media quoted Indian officials as saying that Hon Hai’s investment in India is currently about US$8 billion and will increase fivefold in the next three years. This is mainly due to the demand of the large customer Apple, and Hon Hai’s Indian factory will play a key role. The official said that although Hon Hai has claimed that the company's investment and manpower in India will double this time next year; in fact, Hon Hai's investment in India will increase fivefold in the next three years. Hon Hai currently assembles iPhones for Apple in India and employs about 35,000 people, which will surge to 200,000 people in the next three years.
Before iPhone 14, Apple only assembled a small number of its phones in India. Foreign investors estimate that by around 2025, the proportion of iPhones made in India will reach 25%.
According to media reports, Hon Hai’s Indian factory has begun producing the iPhone 15 standard version. However, the factory’s production capacity is currently very limited and it still needs to import to meet market demand. Hon Hai's India factory plans to start producing iPhone 15 Plus models in the fourth quarter of this year, and it is expected to be launched in the local market as early as late October. Before the launch of products made in India, the iPhone 15 Plus relied entirely on imports.
