Valve today brought SteamVR 2.0 in beta form, and the team believes that "this is our first step in bringing all the new features of the Steam platform to VR." In other words, most of the current features of Steam and SteamDeck have been incorporated into SteamVR. It should be noted that in order to experience all the features of this beta version, you must opt in to join the Steam client beta version (see instructions below for details).
For users who choose the beta version of optinto, you will notice a new UI that includes many new features. Key highlights of SteamVRBeta2.0.1 include:
Most current features of Steam and SteamDeck are now included in SteamVR
Updated keyboard to support new languages, emojis and themes
Integrate SteamChat and VoiceChat
Improved App Store to put new and popular VR content front and center
Valve noted: "This is just the beginning of the SteamVR 2.0 journey. Over the coming weeks and months, we will collect more feedback and continue to optimize and add the features mentioned above. As more and more people try it, this beta will give us a chance to iron out kinks. As with all betas, this means that SteamVR 2.0 will get better and better as we prepare for the final official version."
In addition to the new interface, this beta version brings the following changes:
SteamVR:
Floating overlay windows can now be interacted with while the dashboard is hidden.
Fixed an issue where certain Unity content would crash on exit.
Added system layer resolution limit. Previously it was 1.5x the recommended render target scale, but now applies to width and height separately.
Fixed a situation where controller configuration would not be localized in the user's preferred language.
Added prompt to install large screen override driver when headset is detected.
Meta:
Hide SteamVR's IPD slider, as Meta already displays an IPD slider.
Linux:
Transition to SteamLinuxRuntime3.0 (sniper) to improve compatibility.
drive:
For drivers that provide a manifest but do not specify "resourceOnly", this defaults to true if there is no bin directory.
Adding a manifest item "showEnableInSettings" can be set to force the driver to appear in the "addons" settings, even if the default rules would hide it.
When a specific driver is forced to be loaded using the "forcedDriver" setting or VR_FORCE_TEST_DRIVER, it will be loaded even if it is disabled.
When forcing a specific driver using the "forcedDriver" setting or VR_FORCE_TEST_DRIVER, only allow the headset to be activated from said driver (even if other drivers are loaded due to "activateMultipleDrivers" and they activate the headset first).
"LastKnown" in settings now tracks the "ActualHMDDriver" providing the headset (e.g. "lighthouse").
If you encounter problems with this update, please post them in the SteamVRBugReport forum. If possible, please attach a system report.
