From images, voice, to the Internet...ChatGPT is "breaking through" a series of previous limitations. On September 28, OpenAI announced on Twitter,ChatGPT can now start accessing the Internet and providing links, which means it is no longer limited to data before September 2021.

A GIF posted by OpenAI shows that after a question was posed to ChatGPT, ChatGPT's response suggested a series of links and provided answers based on content from the internet.

OpenAI says this feature is currently open to all Plus and Enterprise users and will soon be expanded to all users:

To enable, select BrowsewithBing in the selector under GPT-4.

This marks ChatGPT’s “return” to web browsing.

In March of this year, when OpenAI first launched third-party plug-ins for ChatGPT, it also announced two plug-ins of its own - Code Interpreter(later renamed "Advanced Data Analytics," allowing ChatGPT to accept uploaded files) and "Browse," which uses Microsoft's Bing API and a text-based browser to search the web and summarize information for users, who can hover and click to access superscript references to source websites.

This feature puts ChatGPT on par with Microsoft's own NewBing and Google's Bard. Now these generative AI chatbots can search and provide links in real time.

It is worth noting that in late June this year, OpenAI added the ability to browse the Internet to its ChatGPTiOS application, but later disabled it because of concerns that it would allow users to bypass paywalls.

Earlier this week, OpenAI also announced a major update that will enable ChatGPT to have voice conversations with users and interact with them through images, bringing it closer to popular AI assistants like Apple's Siri.
