Various reports have highlighted overheating issues with the latest iPhones, and owners have corroborated these claims by providing their own anecdotes online. The titanium body and lack of well-designed cooling solutions are the main culprits in the high temperatures, but surprisingly, various tests show that the iPhone 15 Pro Max does not overheat while charging, no matter how long it is connected to the charger. Not only that, the maximum temperature recorded when charging the iPhone 15 Pro Max is 38.9 degrees Celsius (102.02 degrees Fahrenheit), which is quite cool to the touch.

Three charging tests conducted by ChargerLAB found that the thermal efficiency of iPhone 15 Pro Max is still quite high. On YouTube, the test results show that the charging time of this 6.7-inch flagship machine is up to 60 minutes. The test recorded the temperature after connecting the charger for 10 minutes, 30 minutes and 60 minutes. The highest reading occurred inside 30 minutes, when the temperature reached 38.9 degrees Celsius. Analysis shows that the iPhone 15 Pro Max is charging quickly at this stage, which is likely to be the reason for this data.

Surprisingly, after being plugged in for 60 minutes, the iPhone 15 Pro Max had the lowest temperature in the entire test, not exceeding 29.5 degrees Celsius. ChargerLAB noticed in previous charging tests that even with the 140W power module officially provided by Apple, the maximum supported power of this model did not exceed 25.5W. These charging speeds are unchanged from last year's iPhone 14 Pro Max, and these limitations are likely to be intentional on Apple's part.

Assuming that the iPhone 15 Pro Max supports a higher power mode, its temperature will increase exponentially, and all this heat is likely to accelerate the aging of the battery, prompting users to replace the battery in advance. While it's responsible for Apple to limit maximum charging levels to maintain good temperatures, it does mean you have to leave your device plugged in longer to reach 100% charge. On newer models, though, there's a way to increase battery health while reducing the charge level to 80%.

Apple has added three new battery health features to the iPhone 15 series: Optimized Battery Charging, 80% Limit and None. These settings will not only help you keep your battery healthy longer, but also shorten the time it takes for your iPhone 15 Pro Max to fully charge. If you want to see the entire test process, you can watch the video above, and you can rest easy knowing that your latest device will never overheat when plugged in.
