Mark Gurman recently revealed that Apple is working hard to develop a search engine codenamed "Pegasus."Apple developed “Pegasus” not to compete directly with Google, but to deeply integrate it into iOS and macOS, and even use generated AI tools to enhance it, while also providing users with a privacy-protecting search experience.

The rapid progress of "Pegasus" development is partly due to the leadership of former Google executive John Giannandrea, who is also currently responsible for Apple's machine learning and AI artificial intelligence business.

This engine is designed to provide more accurate search results. In fact, ordinary users can already experience the shadow of the "Pegasus" search engine in some of Apple's services. For example, Apple has introduced its own search engine in services such as the App Store, Maps, AppleTV, and News.

Gurman pointed out that although Apple's own search is not as powerful as Google, it is only a matter of time to combine it with the AppStore advertising business and launch its own search engine.

Apple executive Eddy Cue has previously issued a statement that Apple will not launch a search engine, and it rejected the proposal to acquire Bing in 2020. It is unknown why the attitude changed.
