SoftBank Group founder and CEO Masayoshi Son said today that he believes general artificial intelligence (AGI) will be achieved within 10 years. AGI refers to artificial intelligence that surpasses human intelligence in almost all fields. Masayoshi Son delivered a speech at the SoftBank World Corporate Conference today. He pointed out that generative artificial intelligence such as ChatGPT is developing rapidly, and he believes that AGI will be 10 times smarter than the sum of all human intelligence in the future.
He has previously stated that he is a "heavy user" of ChatGPT and communicates with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman "almost every day."
In recent months, Masayoshi Son has continued to express his optimism about artificial intelligence. At the SoftBank shareholders meeting in July this year, Son Masayoshi announced that his investment empire would shift from defensive mode to "offensive mode" because he saw the trend of artificial intelligence. At that time, he believed that artificial intelligence would far surpass human intelligence in the future and would eventually be applied to all industries.
Last month, ARM, a British chip design company owned by SoftBank, officially listed on the Nasdaq exchange, raising US$4.87 billion, becoming the largest listing transaction so far this year. On the occasion of ARM's listing, Masayoshi Son once again stated that he is a "loyal believer" in artificial intelligence and that ARM is the "core" beneficiary of the artificial intelligence revolution. He believes that artificial intelligence can help solve some of the world's biggest problems and has the potential to surpass human intelligence.
