Tesla officially announced today,The 20 millionth 4680 battery cell has rolled off the assembly line at the Gigafactory in Texas, USA, unlock new achievements. It is understood that on June 17 this year, Tesla mass-produced its 10 millionth 4680 battery cell, which took about 16 weeks to reach 20 million. The average production capacity at this stage was about 85,500/day.

Currently, the 4680's production capacity is about 4GWh, which is still a long way from Tesla's Texas factory's annual production target of 100GWh.

It is reported that,Ten million 4680 battery cells can satisfy the production of approximately 12,000 Model Y models.

4680 is Tesla's third-generation battery cell product. The battery cell product is cylindrical. "46" represents the cylindrical diameter of 46mm, and "80" represents the cylindrical height of 80mm.

Tesla has stated that,Compared with the 2170 battery, the single energy of the 4680 battery is increased by 5 times, which increases the vehicle mileage by 16%.

At the same time, the power output has been increased by 6 times, and the density is higher. Only 950 cells are needed to form a battery pack, and the energy density is about 330Wh/kg.

The biggest benefit of the 4680 is not to improve performance, but to save costs, thereby increasing profits and lowering the selling price.
