Windows 11 is about to celebrate its third birthday. This also means that the initially released 21H2 version and the first feature update 22H2 version will soon cease support. Microsoft has issued a notice in official documentation to remind users that these two operating systems only have 90 days of support left. After that, Windows 1121H2 and 22H2 will stop receiving updates, security patches, and fixes.
It is worth noting that Windows 1121H2 is no longer supported by ordinary consumers. The only versions that are still being updated are the Enterprise Edition, Education Edition and IoT Enterprise Edition. As for the 22H2 version, Microsoft will stop updating the Home and Professional editions.
On October 8, 2024, Windows 11 version 21H2 (Enterprise Edition, Education Edition, and IoT Enterprise Edition) and Windows 11 version 22H2 (Home Edition and Professional Edition) will end their services. The upcoming October 2024 security update, released on October 8, 2024, will be the last available update for these versions. After this date, devices running these versions will no longer receive monthly security updates and preview updates that contain protection against the latest security threats.
The end of support for Windows 11 versions 21H2 and 22H2 also means that users with unmanaged devices will automatically update to version 23H2 to remain supported.
To help you stay protected and be more productive, Windows Update will automatically launch feature updates when Windows 11 business devices not managed by your IT department near the end of their service life. After migrating to Windows 1123H2, your devices will continue to be supported and receive monthly updates critical to security and ecosystem health.
Windows 11 version 23H2 is currently Microsoft’s latest version and is scheduled to end support on November 11, 2025. Although Windows 11 version 24H2 is technically released on Copilot+PC, Microsoft has not yet added it to the official Windows lifecycle documentation.
