Western Digital is currently negotiating to merge its NAND flash memory production business and is about to finalize the final plan. They will create the world's largest NAND flash memory manufacturer.It is reported that Western Digital and Kioxia will strengthen their competitiveness in the NAND flash memory field, challenge Samsung's market leader status, and also pose a greater challenge to SK Hynix and the United States.

However, the two manufacturers will still face many challenges on the road to merger, such as scrutiny from regulatory agencies around the world and opposition from competitors and relevant stakeholders.

In addition, according to TrendForce data, in the second quarter of 2023, Kioxia occupied 19.6% of the market share, while Western Digital had 14.7%, Samsung and SK Hynix had 31.1% and 17.8% respectively.

Therefore, after the merger of Kioxia and Western Digital, the market share reached 34.3%, surpassing Samsung to become the largest NAND flash memory supplier.
