Minecraft has become the best-selling video game of all time. Today, Mojang announced that it has sold a staggering 300 million copies. "As we approach our 15th anniversary, William & Magic remains one of the best-selling games of all time, with over 300 million copies sold, a milestone we never dreamed of when we laid out the first brick," Mojang studio head Helen Chiang said in a statement.

This new milestone was announced during Minecraft Live 2023, an event that shares news and community updates, and features a unique voting event where players can vote on which new mob should be added to the game. This year, players can choose from crabs, armadillos, and penguins.

"Minecraft" has sold 300 million copies, which is no small feat. Its sales exceed the sales of almost all other entertainment media. To put that into perspective, Thriller, the best-selling album of all time, has sold around 70 million copies. The best-selling game console, PS2, also sold approximately 155 million units. Even the second-best-selling video game in history, "Grand Theft Auto V," cannot match the sales of "Minecraft," with peak sales of only 185 million. Minecraft is a unique game, and it's likely to remain so for a long time -- at least until Half-Life 3 comes out.
