At present, the Android camp generally uses hole-punch screens, supplemented by screen fingerprint recognition. In contrast, Apple is taking the "3D face recognition route" and has never used screen fingerprint recognition.

It is worth noting that Apple has obtained patents related to under-screen FaceID.The original 3D structured light TrueDepth camera system was placed under the screen, eliminating the need for a hole in the screen.

The patent document shows that the mobile phone display reserves a series of tiny apertures, and the screen there can enable or disable different pixels according to different functions. For example, when performing face recognition, the screen pixels above it will be turned off, and then external light can be transmitted to the 3D face recognition system below the screen through the reserved aperture.

In order to ensure the image quality of the front camera, Apple has not placed the camera under the screen for the time being, and what it finally presents is a hole-punch screen phone with 3D face recognition.
