Recently,There are rumors that Lexus plans to build an independent factory in China and plans to produce a new UX hybrid version and a new pure electric model. At the same time, these new cars will be sold in the Chinese market and exported to overseas markets such as Japan. In this regard, Toyota China and Lexus China officials did not give a clear response, only stating that they would not comment on the rumors.
According to previous reports, Toyota is negotiating with the Shanghai municipal government to build a Lexus factory in Shanghai dedicated to producing high-end electric vehicles.
Toyota expects to receive similar preferential policies as Tesla, including tax exemptions, policy support and land grants, and hopes to achieve 100% control without the need for local joint venture partners to operate directly.
However, an insider revealed thatAlthough Shanghai has indeed had contact with Toyota, there are still many uncertainties about whether Lexus' plan to build a wholly-owned factory in China can be realized.
If Lexus builds a factory in China, it is expected to produce pure electric models rather than hybrid products.
The person familiar with the matter also mentioned that discussions about building and producing Lexus plants in China have been ongoing for many years, but Toyota executives have not been able to make a final decision because Toyota executives believe that the time and conditions are not yet mature.
