Google's upcoming Pixel models have been leaking information non-stop, and today is no exception. In today's first leak, we get some details about the Pixel 9 series' software versions, storage options, battery, and charging. Let’s get right to the point.
The Pixel 9 series is rumored to run Android 14 instead of Android 15, breaking with Pixel tradition in the same way that new high-end Pixels released in August broke with October release tradition.
This is likely due to Android 15 not being ready by the end of August, which itself is nothing new - last year, Android 14 was also delayed.
Pixel9, Pixel9Pro and Pixel9ProXL all start with 128GB storage capacity. The Pixel 9 will come with 12GB of memory, and the Pro will come with 16GB. Pixel9 will also be available in 256GB, and Pro will be available in 256GB/512GB/1TB.
The charging speed of the upcoming phone appears to be improved compared to its predecessor. According to the promotion, Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro will charge to 55% in 30 minutes, while Pixel 9 Pro XL will charge to 70% in the same time.
This will all be possible via the Google 45W USB-C charger, which will be available when it becomes available. Currently, Google only sells 30W USB-C chargers. The Pixel 9 Pro XL will have a 5,060 mAh battery, which is 10 mAh larger than the Pixel 8 Pro it will replace. For reference, Pixel8Pro can reach 50% power in 30 minutes when using a 30W USB-C charger.
Google also promises "24 hours" battery life on all models, with up to 100 hours in "Extreme Power Saving" mode.
