As we all know, Rockstar is working hard to develop "GTA6". However, in addition to "GTA6", we seem to have seen the dawn of another "GTA" game. According to the Wall Street Journal, Netflix is negotiating with TakeTwo to obtain authorization to make the "GTA" game available on the Netflix game service.
The Wall Street Journal reported that Netflix has "discussed some plans" to bring a "GTA" game to its own game service through a licensing agreement with publisher TakeTwo. What kind of GTA game this will be and who the developer is has not yet been determined.
As things stand, any GTA spin-off launched on Netflix will "inevitably be a mobile game," as the only way to play Netflix games currently is through its mobile app. According to the report, Netflix hopes to eventually expand its game library to include games that can be streamed through a TV or computer.
Netflix has spent about $1 billion on gaming so far, one analyst told the Wall Street Journal. And it seems to be planning to hire more game executives to oversee its push into triple-A games. But there's no good way to accurately tell what a company's return on investment will be, or if it will pay off at all. The games are not purchased stand-alone but are bundled with a Netflix subscription. We'll get updated numbers on the company's earnings on Wednesday, but there's no way of knowing whether the games will convince people to subscribe.
