Nvidia's upcoming artificial intelligence chips will be delayed by three months or more due to design flaws, according to two people who help Nvidia make chips and server hardware, potentially affecting customers such as Meta, Google and Microsoft, which together have ordered tens of billions of dollars worth of chips.

Nvidia this week told Microsoft, one of its largest customers, and another large cloud provider that the most advanced artificial intelligence chip in its new Blackwell series of chips will be delayed, according to a Microsoft employee and another person familiar with the matter.

This delay means that mass shipments are not expected until the first quarter of 2025.

An Nvidia spokesperson would not comment on its statement on the delay in notifying customers, but said: "Production is expected to increase later this year."

Microsoft, Google, Amazon Web Services and Meta declined to comment.
