According to news on October 18, Qualcomm announced on Tuesday that it would cooperate with Google to use chips based on RISC-V technology to manufacture wearable devices such as smart watches. RISC-V is an open source technology that competes with expensive proprietary technology from British chip design company Arm. RISC-V can be used to make smartphone chips and advanced processors for artificial intelligence.
Although lawmakers have expressed concerns about other countries taking advantage of the culture of open collaboration among U.S. companies to promote their own semiconductor industries, U.S. companies are still actively promoting RISC-V-based technology.
Qualcomm plans to commercialize RISC-V-based wearable device solutions globally, including in the United States.
Qualcomm said this will help more products in the Android ecosystem take advantage of low-power, high-performance custom processors.
