According to the latest annual "State of Game Technology Report" by technology research company Perforce, the three major problems game developers currently face are lack of funds, difficulty in collaboration, and lack of time for innovation. One-third of the 576 respondents from gaming, media/entertainment, technology and manufacturing workers and senior managers said collaboration was difficult, citing the frequent need to "send and receive very large files" as more of a barrier to collaboration than remote working.
90% of people believe that being able to communicate directly with senior leaders is more important than "being able to work remotely". Of course, 81% of people think it is important to have the option to work remotely.
The lack of innovation in the gaming industry has been blamed mainly on "lack of talent" and "aggressive timelines."
More than 50% of the respondents said that before their current work, they mainly used game engines such as Unity and Unreal for "non-game projects", and 1/3 of the respondents said that they had never worked in the game industry before.
Perforce claims that game developers are "always at the forefront of innovation" and that "their tools and processes are well-suited to address the challenges of other markets."
In the same report, 65% of respondents admitted that they use “AI tools,” the most popular of which is ChatGPT (47%).
