The Tesla Cybertruck has become the subject of research in the automotive industry. This polarizing pure electric pickup truck is attracting the attention of some established automakers, including South Korea's Hyundai Motor Company. It is rumored that the company conducted a disassembly analysis of a Tesla Cybertruck.

Industry insiders revealed that at the end of last month, Hyundai Motor Group’s Namyang Research Center began disassembly and analysis of a Cybertruck. The study was reported to have been completed on July 28, 2024.

Although it is unclear why Hyundai is conducting disassembly research on the Cybertruck, there are reports that Hyundai plans to enter the U.S. electric pickup market in the next few years. According to reports, in order to achieve its goal of entering the U.S. electric pickup market, Hyundai is seeking to develop a pure electric pickup truck that will be sold under both the Hyundai and Kia brands.

According to reports, Hyundai’s upcoming pure electric pickup truck aims to provide a load of 4,000 kilograms and a cruising range of more than 500 kilometers. Hyundai plans to produce more than 50,000 pure electric pickup trucks per year in 2029; Kia plans to start producing this model in 2028 and produce more than 50,000 vehicles per year.

The Tesla Cybertruck has become a reference model for modern cars, unique in its market segment due to innovative technologies such as its 48V architecture and steer-by-wire system.

Although Cybertruck’s reputation on the Internet is somewhat polarizing, Kelley Blue Book recently pointed out that in July this year, this pure electric pickup truck was the best-selling model in the US segment with a price of more than $100,000.

The North American pickup truck market is very large, with annual sales ranging from 2.8 million to 3 million units, more than twice the sales of sedans in the region. To date, the three best-selling pickup trucks in the United States are the Ford F-Series, Chevrolet Silverado and Dodge Ram. According to Marklines estimates, the combined sales of these three models alone exceeded 1.7 million units last year, exceeding the combined annual sales of Hyundai and Kia in the United States.
