The American "Hollywood Reporter" stated on the 17th that due to the impact of the strike by American screenwriters and actors, Hollywood's film and television production in the third quarter (July to September) of this year has almost come to a standstill. The total production volume in the Los Angeles area has decreased by 41%, which is a considerable loss. The latest report data released by FilmLA, a professional organization responsible for coordinating film and television licenses in the Los Angeles area, shows that compared with the same period last year, the production of "scripted TV programs" in the region dropped by 99% in the third quarter of this year, and almost all projects were suspended.
In contrast, film production output fell by 55%. This is because the Screen Actors Guild issued a "temporary licensing agreement" for independent films, allowing some independent film crews to start working. In addition, the number of reality shows and commercials also fell by 23% and 26% respectively in the third quarter. "These statistics are shocking and we have ample evidence that the current economic downturn is affecting many families, businesses, lives and jobs," said Paul Odelay, president of FilmLA.
Although the five-month American writers' strike has officially ended this month, the actors' strike involving a wider range of people shows no sign of ending. According to the US media "Variety", the Screen Actors Guild hopes to receive a share of US$500 million from streaming profits, but the Film and Television Producers Alliance, which represents the studio, is only willing to pay US$20 million. Coupled with differences in artificial intelligence and minimum income, the latest negotiations between labor and management broke up unhappily, and the Hollywood strike continues.
