Friends who are familiar with the development history of China's smartphone market know that Huawei once achieved a leading position in the domestic high-end mobile phone market. However, due to the influence of multiple factors, Apple replaced Huawei's position. However, relying on flagship phones such as the Mate60 series, Huawei is "recovering lost ground." According to Mobile China, some foreign media recently analyzed that if Huawei continues to innovate, it is expected to defeat Apple again in the high-end mobile phone market.

Data shows that Huawei Mate60 series has set a new record in the Chinese smartphone market, and its weekly sales have exceeded the iPhone15 series.

In this regard, Nabila Popal, research director of IDC's global tracking team, shared her views on the current competition and future development between Huawei and Apple.

Nabila recalled that Apple’s market share in China in 2019 was approximately 7.5%, and by 2023, its market share will increase to 16%.

This suggests that Huawei's difficulties after 2019 helped the American company gain more share.

In the high-end market, Huawei accounted for more than 58% of the entire high-end smartphone market in its heyday, while Apple was limited to 35%. By the second quarter of 2023, Apple's share of China's high-end smartphone market will reach 72%, while Huawei will shrink to about 16%.

When Nabila talked about "the possibility of Huawei surpassing Apple again in this field," he said that Apple, as a well-known brand, has brand loyalty, or brand stickiness, that everyone understands. It's very difficult (for Huawei to defeat Apple). Brand stickiness is like once you're stuck in it, it's hard to pull it out. Generally speaking, you're tied to the brand and operating system.

Foreign media said that Huawei does face challenges in regaining share from Apple.

However, if Huawei continues to innovate and launch new devices for Chinese consumers, changing consumer interests and Huawei's growth in the ecosystem may give Huawei the strength to compete fairly with Apple in the high-end smartphone space.
