Destiny developer Bungie and toymaker Nerf are investigating allegations that the recently unveiled Ace of Spades Nerf gun is a direct copy of a 2015 fan design.
X user @Tofu_Rabbit claimed on Wednesday that the new toy gun plagiarized design elements, as well as the brush strokes and smudge effects from his original design. He also posted two comparison images showing what he believes are very similar, and in some cases even identical, design elements.
Bungie now says it is investigating the matter and will update "on the next steps we will take as more information is gathered."
To complicate matters further, the gun isn't just in-game content, but an actual Nerf gun that players can pre-order.
Netizens said that this is actually the third time Bungie has experienced plagiarism this year. Recommender Reid Southen said that he was also one of the victims and that his work was plagiarized by Bungie in 2012.
