Apple announced in April this year that it would improve the iPhone repair process.Support customers and independent repairers to use second-hand Apple parts for repairs, making it easier for users to repair their iPhones using genuine used parts.

The media 9to5Mac published an article today saying,Apple's iOS18RC version introduces the "activation lock" function for iPhone components.

After the user enables Component Activation Lock,Not only does it bind the Apple account to the current iPhone, it also binds the independent serial numbers of the battery, camera, display and other components simultaneously..

This feature can be used to improve device security, curb the sale of stolen iPhone parts, and ensure that even if the device is lost or stolen, its parts cannot be easily reused.

When an iPhone detects that a part comes from another device that has Activation Lock or Lost Mode enabled, it will ask for the original device owner’s Apple account password.

It is understood that some users try to exchange parts between iPhones running iOS 18.0RC, and the device will indeed ask for the Apple account password to unlock and verify the components used.

It should be noted thatComponent Activation Lock is currently only available for iPhones and not for iPads with iPadOS 18.
