According to Hong Kong media "South China Morning Post", "Fast and Furious" actor Sung Kang will direct a live-action version of "Initial D" movie. In an interview with the South China Morning Post, Cheng Kang said that he has been hired to direct the live-action Initial D film, which will be "about cars, drifting, cool stuff like that, almost like Rocky or The Karate Kid. It's a fun, big-budget movie that speaks to my love of cars."
In 2005, "Initial D" was adapted into a live-action film starring Jay Chou by Hong Kong directors Lau Wai-keung and Mak Siu-fai. Hong Kong earned HK$37.86 million, making it the annual Chinese-language film champion.
