Apple is significantly increasing the price of out-of-warranty battery replacements, this time mainly for the iPhone 16 Pro models. The new out-of-warranty battery replacement fee for the two larger iPhone models is $119, which is higher than the $99 cost for the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max. The regular iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus still cost $99.

The last time Apple increased the cost of out-of-warranty battery replacement was for the 2022 iPhone 14 model. The price has increased from $69 to $99.

Since all new iPhones come with at least one year of AppleCare coverage, new buyers aren't expected to feel this change anytime soon. Purchasing AppleCare+ warranty service allows Apple to officially cover most repair costs for three years or more.

According to AppleCare service policy, if the battery can no longer maintain at least 80% of its original capacity, users can apply for free battery replacement service. According to Apple, the iPhone battery is designed to maintain 80% of its original capacity for 500 complete charging cycles under ideal conditions, while the battery design capacity of iPhone 15 and later models is to maintain 80% of its original capacity for 1,000 complete charging cycles under ideal conditions.

It is said that in addition to being larger in size, the batteries of the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models also use a new metal casing to help improve heat dissipation. This may require additional labor and workmanship to replace these batteries, which is why replacement costs increase.

The price of replacing a battery for older iPhones that are out of warranty varies by model. Battery replacement for the iPhone 15 and iPhone 14 is $99 for all models, while most older models are charged $89, except for the iPhone SE and iPhone 8, which still cost $69.
