Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo issued a report saying that iPhone 16 series sales were lower than expected. Ming-Chi Kuo said,Pre-order sales of the iPhone 16 series in the first weekend were approximately 37 million units, a decrease of approximately 12.7% compared to the iPhone 15 series in the same period last year, which was lower than Apple’s expectations.

On the other hand, the shipping time of the iPhone 16 Pro series is significantly shorter than that of the 15 Pro series. One of the reasons is that Apple increased its stocking volume before pre-orders, and the second reason is that the demand for the Pro series is lower than expected.

Ming-Chi Kuo believes that the key reason why iPhone 16 Pro series sales are lower than expected isApple’s biggest selling point, Apple Intelligence, cannot be launched with the release of iPhone 16, while fierce competition in the Chinese market has also reduced iPhone demand.

It is worth noting that the first weekend sales of iPhone 16 Plus and iPhone 16 increased, but it has limited help in increasing overall iPhone shipments.

Finally, Ming-Chi Kuo said that although the sales of the Pro series were lower than expected,However, the production plan of the supply chain will not change much in the short term.Apple still has the opportunity to increase sales after the launch of Apple Intelligence and subsequent peak season promotions (China’s Double Eleven).

He also said that if Apple Intelligence launched in Q4 2024 and China’s Double 11 do not significantly increase the sales of the iPhone 16 series,Apple will adopt a more aggressive product strategy in 2025 to boost market demand.
