Today (September 16), Laura Fryer, a former Microsoft executive and game producer of many "Gears of War" works, shared her views on the failure of "Star Strike". Fryer said that the failure of "Starstruck" was due to problems with the overall culture of Firewalk Studios. According to her, the development team either didn't receive feedback on the game, or received feedback but ignored it, issues that indicate there may be issues with the atmosphere at the studio.
Developing any game is an iterative process. During the development process, external factors need to be considered and adjusted. But Firewalk Studios didn't do that, so they basically released an outdated game.
"Starstrike didn't create a game that audiences wanted," Fryer said. She said the developers likely saw the shooter's shortcomings and heard negative feedback from participants in closed beta. However, for various reasons, no one listened to these opinions. Developers may be so concerned about their jobs that they prefer to ignore negative comments rather than upset higher-ups on the development team.
Fryer emphasized that the biggest problem with "Star Attack" is the character design. The developers clearly failed to create characters that would appeal to modern gamers. Maybe Firewalk created a character that the lead designer or executive liked, but the company didn't consider the feelings of other players.
In addition, Fryer also believes that Firewalk Studios made a mistake in pricing the game at $40. The game should be a free game, which would better meet the needs of modern players.
