The largest smartphones made by the likes of Apple and Samsung typically have the longest battery life, which isn't surprising since they have the biggest batteries - but new tests show the iPhone 16 Pro Max performs even better than it theoretically does.
Tech enthusiast website Tom'sGuide has updated its battery life rankings of popular smartphones for the manufacturer's latest models. The test results show that the iPhone 16 Pro Max has a battery capacity of 4685mAh and a battery life of 18 hours and 6 minutes.
In comparison, the Chinese smartphone OnePlus 12 lasted 17 hours and 37 minutes. This is closest to the iPhone 16 Pro Max, but the battery capacity of the OnePlus 12 is much larger, reaching 5400mAh.
Samsung's Galaxy S24 Plus and Ultra models scored significantly lower, at 16 hours and 46 minutes and 16 hours and 45 minutes respectively. Both data are better than the 16 hours and 29 minutes of Apple iPhone 16 Plus. However, compared with the 4900mAh battery of Samsung Galaxy S24Plus, the battery capacity of iPhone16Plus is smaller, only 4674mAh.
The battery life of the standard iPhone 16 is 12 hours and 43 minutes, which is significantly shorter than the larger models in the series, but it is still more than an hour longer than the battery life of the iPhone 15, which has a battery life of 11 hours and 5 minutes. Similarly, the battery life of iPhone 16 Plus is more than two hours longer than that of iPhone 15 Plus, which has a battery life of 14 hours and 14 minutes.
In just one year, this growth is very obvious, perhaps even more so for the ordinary iPhone. The growth of iPhone16Pro models is even more obvious.
Specifically, the battery life of iPhone 16 Pro Max is more than four hours shorter than that of iPhone 15 Pro Max. The battery life of the smaller iPhone 16 Pro is three and a half hours longer than that of the iPhone 15 Pro.
In comparison, Google's Pixel phone lineup lags behind the industry leaders. The regular version of Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro both took about 13 and a half hours, while the Pixel 9 Pro XL reached 14 hours and 37 minutes.
It should be noted that although these data are measured through actual tests, such as surfing the Internet through 5G, in actual use, users may not necessarily see such significant improvements. This is because for the sake of consistency, the brightness of all smartphones in the test is set to 150nits, while the brightness of the iPhone 16 series can reach up to 2000nits.
As always, battery life depends directly on usage. But the iPhone 16 Pro Max has the longest potential battery life, and all users will benefit from it.
