Recently, Toyota Motor stated:It has made breakthroughs in battery material technology and can mass-produce solid-state batteries by 2027 or 2028.It is reported that the charging speed of the solid-state battery currently developed by Toyota will be 1.5 times that of Tesla. It can travel 1,200 kilometers in 10 minutes of charging, which is close to the time required to refuel a fuel vehicle.
Judging from previously disclosed information, solid-state batteries have the characteristics of fast charging, high safety, and long cruising range, and are regarded as the next generation of battery technology.
However, solid-state batteries still have high costs, complex technology, and difficulties in mass production. An organization pointed out in the report that solid-state batteries “will have a relatively difficult road to scale expansion in the next ten years.”
In this regard, Toyota said: One of the most critical and difficult technologies for mass production is the assembly process, in which cathode and anode battery layers need to be stacked quickly and with high precision without damaging the material.
When asked whether Toyota would now be able to produce solid-state batteries at the same rate as current lithium-ion batteries, a Toyota engineer told the media:"We're almost there in terms of stacking speed. We're going to roll out larger volumes and check the quality."
at present,Toyota is a leader in the research and development of all-solid-state batteries, with more than 1,000 related patents, as early as the summer of 2020, for the first time in the world, a vehicle equipped with an all-solid-state battery obtained a license plate and underwent driving tests.
In the future, Toyota will further promote development and plan to extend the cruising range to approximately 1,500 kilometers in the future with charging time also being less than 10 minutes.
