OpenAI published an article on Previously, the San Francisco-based ChatGPT developer experienced US$6.4 billion in financing, a restructuring plan, and a series of executive departures.

The company also said general manager Oliver Jay (formerly Asana chief revenue officer and Dropbox head of Asia Pacific and Latin America and the Caribbean) will oversee international operations and facilitate global expansion from Singapore.

An OpenAI spokesperson said the company has begun building a team in Singapore that will serve as a hub to support customers and partners in the Asia-Pacific region. The company is currently hiring engineers and plans to open a Singapore office by the end of this year. This will be OpenAI’s second office in Asia, following its opening in Tokyo in April this year.

"Singapore has one of the highest per capita uses of ChatGPT in the world, with the number of weekly active users doubling since the beginning of this year," OpenAI said in a statement.

While opening the new office, OpenAI also said it will work with AISingapore to expand access to its artificial intelligence technology in Southeast Asia. Launched in 2017 by the National Research Foundation (NRF), AI Singapore is a national program to support Singaporean companies and research institutions in leveraging artificial intelligence.

Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, said in a statement: "Singapore has a rich history of technological leadership and has become a leader in artificial intelligence, recognizing the potential of artificial intelligence to solve society's toughest problems and promote economic prosperity. We are excited to work with the government and the country's thriving artificial intelligence ecosystem to expand our business into the Asia-Pacific region."
