The latest data released by the United States Patent and Trademark Office USPTO website shows that,Huawei and Xiaomi completed patent transfer cooperation on September 10 this year. Huawei obtained family 5 US patents from Xiaomi.This is also the first public action since Huawei and Xiaomi reached a global patent cross-licensing agreement.
It is reported that in September 2023, Huawei announced on its official website that it had reached a cooperation with Xiaomi, and the agreement covered communication technologies including 5G.
Fan Zhiyong, director of Huawei's Intellectual Property Department, said at the time: "Huawei is pleased to have reached a license with Xiaomi. This license agreement once again reflects the industry's recognition of Huawei's contribution in the field of communication standards, and also allows us to strengthen research investment in future mobile communication technology."
Although many people have a stereotype that Xiaomi does not seem to have much innovation and technology, in fact, after insisting on investing heavily in research and development, the number of Xiaomi's patents is rising rapidly. The cooperation between Huawei and Xiaomi is also a reflection of its recognition.
According to the "Research Report on Global 5G Standard Essential Patents and Standard Proposals (2024)" released by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology,In the 2024 global 5G standard essential patent rankings, Huawei, ZTE, and Xiaomi rank among the top three Chinese companies.
Xiaomi ranked eighth with a share of 4.62%, an improvement of two places from the tenth place it entered for the first time last year, and its growth rate ranked first among Chinese companies.
According to data previously released by Xiaomi, R&D investment in the first half of 2024 has reached 10.7 billion yuan, and the full-year R&D investment is expected to reach 24 billion yuan.Xiaomi has announced in 2023 that its R&D investment will exceed 100 billion yuan in the next five years.
