According to TechInsights, a well-known semiconductor industry observation organization,The world's most advanced 3D NAND memory chip has been found in a consumer electronics product, and it comes from Yangtze Memory, China's top 3D NAND manufacturer.It is reported that TechInsights discovered the 232-layer QLC3DNAND chip manufactured by Yangtze Memory in the Zhistate SSD launched in July 2023.This new QLC chip has the highest bit density among commercial NAND products at 19.8Gb/mm2.

This discoveryIt surpassed Micron and Intel (Solidigm), which are also developing 232-layer QLC3DNAND chips.

TechInsights said that despite the difficulties imposed by sanctions - including the company being restricted from supplying iPhone parts produced in China to Apple and being included on the US Entity List, Yangtze Memory is still quietly developing the most advanced technology.

The recent downturn in the storage market, coupled with many memory manufacturers' focus on cost-saving initiatives, may provide opportunities for Yangtze Memory to lead with higher bit density 3DXtacking NAND.

It is worth noting that Samsung’s current strategy is to focus on TLC and QLC of V93D NAND, and therefore does not develop QLC on 236-layer (V8) 3DNAND.

However, at the "Memory Technology Day" held last week, Samsung unveiled its QLC product for the mobile market for the first time - a 512GBUFS3.1 product using 176-layer (V7) technology.

SK hynix's main business is TLC, not QLC products.

There is growing evidence that China's efforts to overcome trade restrictions and build a local semiconductor supply chain are more successful than expected.
