Some iOS users who have the Washington Post app installed may be able toHe looked down at his device., only to find a black toggle button that cannot be canceled hovering on the screen, and the number of electoral votes for the 2024 presidential election is slowly rising. If you click on it, it just expands to give you more information about the campaign, as well as a small portrait of the candidate drawn, which is obviously not what you want if you're just looking for a button to make it disappear.

I had a hard time figuring out how to get rid of it, but here's how to get rid of it on iOS:

Go to settings. Select the application at the bottom. Scroll down to the WashPost app. Click LiveActivities. Turn off Allow Live Activity and this content will disappear.

If you want to disable the election count toggle, turn off "Allow live activity"

If you want to restore it, turn on Allow live activity again and enter the WashingtonPost app. Click the gear icon in the upper right corner to access "Your Settings." Select "Live Activity Settings" and turn on the toggle to allow real-time updates of presidential election information. You may also want to click "Start Presidential Activity" below.

Apple News also has a toggle button, and it can presumably be turned off in a similar way in iOS settings.
