Despite numerous privacy-related controversies, multiple antitrust investigations and other issues, Google remains overwhelmingly ahead of its competitors and has become the world's most popular search engine. According to reports, as of October 2023, Google's market share in the United States was 88.07%, up from 86.75% in the same period last year.

StatCounter's report shows that Bing remains the second most popular search engine with a market share of 6.89%, while Yahoo, DuckDuckGo, Yandex and AOL rank at the bottom. Globally, Google held 91.55% market share in October 2023, while Bing only held 3.11%. Microsoft's search engine had a market share of 3.59% in October 2022, meaning it fell further over the past 12 months.

Microsoft's Bing still lacks market share despite integrating ChatGPT, which was supposed to challenge Google's dominance in search for the first time in more than two decades. The cooperation between Microsoft and OpenAI has had an impact on Google for a period of time and has also severely damaged Google's stock price. However, it turns out that the doomsday predictions that the cooperation between ChatGPT and Bing will eat away at Google's market share are very exaggerated.

Data shows that in the past 12 months, Bing's global and U.S. market shares have actually declined instead of rising. Between October 2022 and October 2023, Bing's market share in the United States fell from 7.4% to 6.89%. If the data is true, then Bing not only fails to capture Google's share, but its market share is actually decreasing.

Since the public release of ChatGPT last year, Microsoft has integrated it into many products and services. Most recently, the company launched Windows Copilot, a button on the Windows 11 taskbar that enables Bing Chat, allowing users to ask questions and initiate commands. However, some media reports indicate that the product is far from perfect as Microsoft would like to see.

Given the current state of Bing Chat, it's unlikely to take market share from Google anytime soon, and Google's own BardAI is expected to catch up to ChatGPT soon, and Google is likely to remain the global search leader for the foreseeable future.
