OPPO’s Legal Department today forwarded a case announced on Weibo by the Supreme Prosecutor’s Office. In this case, OPPO teamed up with the police to crack down on new types of fraud that infringed on the company’s rights and interests.According to reports, one day in March 2023, Yang, who was in charge of the city in Zhengzhou, discovered a method that could instantly burn out the motherboard of a mobile phone without damaging it.
This allowed him to find a "business opportunity" to burn out the mobile phone under warranty and exchange it for a new one, and earn the difference in price.
After experimenting for a while and getting a taste of the benefits, Yang purchased mobile phones that were within the warranty range at a low price. He artificially destroyed the motherboards of the mobile phones and sent them to the manufacturers. He exchanged them for new phones and sold them to customers to earn high profits.
Because the same mobile phone number can only apply for after-sales service twice at most, and the consignee and delivery address cannot always be the same, Yang decided to cooperate with Liu, who shared the store.
After adding up, the two clarified their division of labor: Yang was responsible for purchasing mobile phones that had been sold for no more than 30 days, causing faults in the mobile phones, and then reselling new ones; Liu was responsible for finding mobile phone cards and registering information on faulty phones.
Zhang, who had a regular job, also embarked on this road of no return after successfully helping Yang to replace his new one and receiving 150 yuan in hard work. The same was true for Jiao.
As of the incident, Yang had defrauded a total of 605 mobile phones, involving more than 3.35 million yuan;
Liu defrauded 245 mobile phones, involving more than 1.3 million yuan;
Zhang defrauded 5 mobile phones, involving more than 26,000 yuan;
Jiao defrauded 4 mobile phones, involving a total amount of more than 23,000 yuan.
On June 12, 2023, OPPO reported that it had encountered a new type of fraud.
Through investigation of after-sales data, it was found that most of the after-sales mobile phones involved in this case had abnormal replacements. The models involved were all mid-to-high-end flagship mobile phones. The phones in question all had the same fault, and the same fault was not found outside Guancheng District.
Secondly, everyone who sent the mobile phone for repair requested to replace it with a new unused mobile phone, and the express delivery address for receiving the new mobile phone was all in Guancheng District.
Third, the owners of mobile phones that were sent for repair mainly sent them for repair through two after-sales stores. The names and phone numbers listed were inaccurate, and the addresses left by some of them were false.
After the incident, Yang and others were arrested one after another.
A few days ago, the Procuratorate of Guancheng Hui District, Zhengzhou City, Henan Province filed a public prosecution against Yang and four others on suspicion of fraud. The case is currently under further trial.
OPPO's Legal Department stated that the company has established an active rights protection team, and will continue to resolutely crack down on new types of fraud, rumors and smearing, damage to goodwill, black and gray products and other criminal activities that infringe the company's legitimate rights and interests based on previous cases.
