On Wednesday local time, German automaker BMW deleted a previously posted post praising Tesla's Full Self-Driving (FSD) software on the social platform X without giving any explanation. On Tuesday, BMW posted a message praising Tesla's latest version of its fully autonomous driving software, FSDV13, calling it "very impressive."
In response to BMW's praise, Tesla's official account responded with "Hi BMW" and attached a smiley face emoji.
The interaction between the two official accounts has raised hopes among Tesla bulls that the company may eventually license the technology to BMW.
However, BMW deleted the post a few hours later.
Electric vehicle analyst Sawyer Merritt noticed BMW's move and posted: "BMW has removed the post praising Tesla's FSDV13."
Tesla CEO Elon Musk responded: "Too bad, this is one of their best posts!"
Musk said earlier this year that the company would "love" to license its fully self-driving technology to other car companies.
However, although the company has held some exploratory conversations, no agreement has been reached so far. "I don't think they (competitors) believe this is real yet," Musk said at the time. "I want to emphasize that if I were the CEO of another car company, I would definitely call Tesla and ask for a license for Tesla's FSD technology."
