OpenAI is giving ChatGPT the voice of Santa Claus for the holidays. ChatGPT users will have access to a new "Santa Mode" voice in December, the startup announced Thursday. The feature allows users to have conversations using ChatGPT’s existing real-time voice feature, Advanced Voice Mode, but with a Christmas twist. As OpenAI describes it, the speech sounds "happy and bright." Think "rough," "cheerful" -- more or less like all the Santa Claus sounds you've ever heard.
OpenAI will release the feature ahead of the 2024 holiday season, when many families with young children will be stuck at home all day and may use Santa Mode frequently.
As part of the 12 Days of OpenAI event, OpenAI also added visual understanding capabilities to ChatGPT this Thursday, allowing the artificial intelligence system to understand real-time video from the camera. This means Santa Mode will also be able to "see" your family and talk to them.
"Santa Mode" will appear as a snowflake icon on the right side of ChatGPT's tooltip and will be rolled out to all users today on mobile, web, and the ChatGPT MacOS and Windows desktop apps.
The company says chats with Santa won't be saved in the chat history and won't impact memory.
