The next generation of ARM-based Windows 11 Snapdragon X Elite chips will make the PC market even more interesting. According to reports, Qualcomm is developing "Project Glymur", which aims to make the Snapdragon XElite chip run faster on Windows 11 on the ARM platform and also prepare it for desktop applications.
Windows 11 on ARM has made great strides in the market, and our first impression of one of the Snapdragon PCs was also the longer battery life. In terms of price, Windows 11 on ARM Snapdragon PC is on par with the MacBook, but it can't beat the new M4 series.
The Snapdragon XElite 2 appears to be making some good progress, based on some references and a social media post from leaker RolandQduant. Qualcomm began developing XElite2 as early as the summer of 2024.
Currently, there are three versions of Snapdragon XElite (X1E-78-100, X1E-80-100 and X1E-84-100). The existing XElite is internally codenamed Project Hamoa.
The follow-up product of Project Hamoa is internally codenamed "ProjectGlymur" and model number is SC8480XP. The "Snapdragon
Snapdragon "XElite2" is likely to have at least one variant designed specifically for desktops. "ProjectGlymur" comes with a 120mm fan AIO liquid cooler. This type of cooling is typically used for high-power chips in gaming PCs or desktops, rather than thin laptops or mobile devices, since they typically don't require such heavy cooling. This thermal configuration suggests that the chip may be able to operate at high speeds and power levels commonly seen in desktop computers. Additionally, Qualcomm is already pushing the Snapdragon XElite to achieve similar performance to desktop processors, so next-gen versions with this type of cooling could easily target desktops.
